MEHER MARFATIA
Author
Meher Marfatia has been a writer and
editor since 1985 when she earned
her Master’s degree in English Literature
from Bombay University.
A former Assistant Editor of The
Illustrated Weekly of India, she worked as
Text Editor for Marg Publications, The Art
India Magazine and Verve.
Her publishing imprint – 49/50 Books –
contributes quality books on community
cultures and ethnic heritage. The first title
in 2011 was ‘Laughter in the House: 20th-
Century Parsi Theatre.’
She is Creative Consultant to a successful
play based on this book, sparking a revival
of Parsi theatre.
Her next title from 49/50 has been the
popular Gujarati-English phrasebook
‘Parsi Bol’, published in partnership with
Sooni Taraporevala. Now launching
in June will be ‘Musical Journeys – A
Personal Introduction to Western
Classical Composers’, authored by Homi
Dastoor with a Foreword by Zubin Mehta.
Also the author of 12 books for children,
Meher runs a reading club for them.
