Head of the 115 year-old group, Adi
Godrej is driven by action rather than
by words. He believes that generating jobs
and producing a common wealth is the
greatest service to his country. A strong
advocate of the free market economy and
also deeply involved in environmental
conservation, he has contributed tangibly
to both. With a consumer - centric
business philosophy, his cherished goal is
to touch lives for the better.

He is currently the Chairman of the
Godrej Group, whose presence is all very
impressively wide ranging. “About 500
million Indians use one or the other of
our products each day, and this is more
than the number of consumers any other
Indian group has,” Adi Godrej reveals with
quiet confidence.

He admits that the Godrej Group’s
commitment to preservation of the
environment, promoting health and
education through Corporate Social
Responsibility has given him great
satisfaction.

Currently, 25% of the shareholding of
the major group holding and operational
company, Godrej & Boyce, is held by
the Godrej Trust, and all the dividends
that come from it go into philanthropic
activities. Also, they have preserved
about 1,500 acres of their land in Vikhroli,
Mumbai, and made it into a mangrove
forest; sponsored the CII Godrej Green
Business Centre in Hyderabad, which
disseminates knowledge about green
and environmentally friendly business
practices. They support the World
Wildlife Fund and other such activities.
