RATAN NAVAL TATA, GBE
Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons
Ratan Tata was born on 28th December,
1937. After his schooling in Mumbai,
he obtained a BS Degree in Architecture
from Cornell University in 1962. He also
completed the Advanced Management
Programme at the Harvard Business
School in 1975.
Returning to India in 1962, he joined
the Tata Group and was associated
with several Tata companies before
becoming Chairman of Tata Sons in
1991, traditionally regarded as the Group
Chairman. He was also Chairman of the
major Tata companies, including Tata
Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy
Services, Tata Power, Tata Global
Beverages, Tata Chemicals, Indian Hotels
and Tata Teleservices.
The Government of India honoured him
with 'Padma Vibhushan' in 2008 and Her
Majesty the Queen of England conferred
the 'Knight Grand Cross' on Ratan Tata in
2014.
A titan among industrialists and a man
who changed the paradigm of conducting
business, Ratan Tata helped usher India
into the global market.
A national icon, in the two decades as
the commander of the country’s largest
business house, he led it to the summit
with his dignified yet forceful leadership.
Eloquent and honest in his views, he
continues to uphold the Tata legacy
of integrity, nation-building and
philanthropy.
